When it comes to starting a diet, one of the best ways to get started is to start a food journal! When I'm working with online personal training clients, I often have them start journaling what they eat for the first few weeks, often times this really helps the client open their eyes to negative eating habits. I practiced the same method with in person personal training clients in Gainesville, Fl! I often get messages like "Wow, I didn't realize how much I snack every day!" or
"I'm not eating nearly enough protein, am I?!"
Studies have shown that writing down what you eat can actually help you understand your negative food habits and makes it easier to start correcting them.
How do you do it? Well, it's actually quite simple. No need to weigh everything out like a professional bodybuilder, just simply jot down in your phone or a notebook paper what you eat, and when, doing this for a week or two will allow you, your online personal trainer, or nutritionist to get an understanding of your normal food intake, where you succeed, and where you struggle. Figuring these aspects out will be key in achieving your health and fitness goals.
Once you've done this, you can start to make small changes! Maybe that is prioritizing getting more protein in, or it's limiting your snacking. There are a ton of small changes you can make that will in turn help you correct your diet without drastic measures all at once, dieting should almost never be extreme or drastic, this is why millions of people fail with weight loss every single year.
I hope this helps, have a kickass day! -Coach D | Owner of Steele Coaching, Fitness Anywhere
